CSCS CARDS
The construction industry is getting qualified!
As you know by now, all personnel attending any kind of ‘construction site’ must hold a CSCS card.
This includes people’s homes as work sites and comprises all trainees, tradesmen, managers, regular visitors etc.
The CSCS card is a means of ensuring that everyone has Health and Safety training to the same standard.
The Construction Skills Certification Scheme is the standard that has been set and these standards have been approved by the CITB and the Government and will be made mandatory during 2008.
Many companies are already turning people away from sites without CSCS Cards and many businesses have already felt the negative affects of not having this card.
With recent statistics in the press about how unsafe the construction industry is, it is important that every business, no matter how big or small is playing their part in making it a safer environment.
CSCS Cards must be renewed by their expiry date. So whether it’s your first one or a replacement;
DCS Training can keep you up to speed with the legal requirements in Health and Safety Training.
DCS have been delivering CSCS cards for the last 5 years, seeing thousands of people pass and gain their site access.
The CSCS training is delivered in short half-day sessions and can be held at your premises if you are block booking (10+). However there is our training facility in Newcastle should you want to come down to us.
At our centre there is the opportunity to run through some mock testing so that you can get a feel for the test before you sit the actual CSCS Card test.
Our pass rate is 98% - I think that you will agree, that that speaks for itself!
At
DCS should anyone need to take re-sits, we will keep putting them through until they pass and that’s at no extra cost.
This is our promise to you.

On-site Skills and Assessment Training (OSAT)
OSAT lets you get a Skilled Workers CSCS card whilst you are working on site during normal working days and takes about six months to complete. On-Site Assessment and Training (OSAT) helps experienced workers get the qualifications to prove they can do the job. It turns their existing skills and experience into a nationally recognised qualification such as an NVQ or SVQ. Having these qualifications also helps qualify them for a Skilled Worker CSCS card.
The whole process is carried out whilst your on-site so they don't have to take time off to go to college.
OSAT is a fast-track route to an NVQ.
There are 6 key stages to the OSAT process:
Stage 1 - Employer contacts DCS Training to enquire about OSAT.
Stage 2 – DCS will discuss the OSAT process with you and help you pick the best 'option' for your needs. They will also talk you through the grants available.
Stage 3 - We will arrange to come to see you to discuss your situation in greater detail.
Stage 4 - Employees are briefed on the OSAT process and undergo a skills review.
Stage 5 - The employee follows an individual action plan to fill any skills gaps, and is assessed as they go along.
Stage 6 - Once successfully completed, an NVQ / SVQ is awarded. When combined with a Health and Safety Test pass, the employee is eligible for a Skilled Worker CSCS card.
Let DCS help you get the recognition that you deserve!
Experienced Worker Practical Assessment (EWPA)
The EWPA has been introduced to get our workers recognised as qualified tradesmen and to help those that missed the CITB grandfather deadline back in June 2006 to get all construction qualifications registered.
It is also a great help to those with enough knowledge and experience to gain their qualifications quickly. It is designed for workers with at least five years’ experience who don’t need any further training. This is perfect for those tradesmen that have served time years ago and have since lost any proof.
It involves spending a day having your skills and knowledge assessed at our center in Newcastle upon Tyne. All the skills needed to pass the NVQ are included in one task, which is observed by one of our approved assessors.
For those tradesmen without their formal qualifications a ‘Site Operatives, green CSCS card, will be issued. This is for unskilled workers such as labourers etc; it is a quick fix for getting on site.
Not only on the large contracts but also as the general public become more and more familiar with new regulations regarding Health and Safety, they are going to start asking to see proof of it.
When you produce your card, let it be one that is going to advertise your abilities and experience and not one that a worker with less skills and experience carries.
If you have the skills – shout about it!
The cost for the Experienced Worker Practical Assessment is £750
Five easy steps to the Experienced Worker Practical Assessment:
Step 1 – Contact us so that we can get the ball rolling.
Step 2 – A member of staff will contact you shortly afterwards to arrange your first appointment.
Step 3 - An approved assessor will introduce you to the process and make an initial assessment to ensure you are suitable to qualify through this method. They may also ask you to bring some items of ‘evidence’ with you.
Evidence you provide can be in a written form, such as witness statements from customers or supervisors worked with in the past, or it can take the form of photographs of your work, site plans, qualifications or proof of employment.
Step 4 - You will undertake a practical assessment of your skills, which will be observed by the assessor. This will be followed by a professional discussion to assess your knowledge of the subject.
Step 5 - If you are successful, you should receive your NVQ certificate within a few weeks. If you have been doing the job for years, you may as well be recognised for the skills you have.
Let DCS help you get the recognition that you deserve!

Whether it is a workforce of a thousand or just one or two of you, let DCS provide you with the training and support to get your people through their Health and Safety Test with as little disruption to your employees as possible.
By providing us with some simple details we can provide training and administrative support to allow them all on-site access. This is becoming increasingly difficult for everyone and is set to increase as we draw nearer to the nationwide deadline.
You can either book your place on-line, if it’s an individual or small work force booking – less than 10 employees
If you would like to book a place then please fill in as much detail as you can and we'll get back to you as soon as we can..
You can give us a call if you prefer and we can do it over the phone – 0191 265 2277.
