Community Projects
DCS Training – CIC has the staff on board to enable minority and socially excluded groups, particularly those surrounding young people when delivering construction training.

Fairbridge workers
We specialise in dealing with young people from various backgrounds but particularly those with criminal records, homeless issues, drug and alcohol misuse and children that have been or are on the verge of being excluded from normal educational routes.

We deliver construction training, however our team of advisors and tutors help with other issues surrounding returning to work or embarking on employment for the first time, with the constraints that particularly vulnerable groups face.

They get an opportunity to test different areas of construction by doing hands on, practical workshops in-centre and then they have the opportunity to get out there and start putting their training into practice. By going onto industry work placements with our Placement Providers.

Recent Projects

Fairbridge workers

DCS Training – CIC have recently been involved with delivering construction training to the service users of Fairbridge who then took those skills back into the community to the likes of ‘Help the Aged’ and other charities and local community groups.

They were able to provide maintenance and building work that would have otherwise cost those organisations a lot of money, which these types of organisations can do without.

This experience also gave the 6 young people that took part the opportunity to raise their skill levels. And as well as giving something back to their communities, it helped to raise their individual self-belief and self esteem.

About Fairbridge

Fairbridge are based in 15 of the most disadvantaged urban areas in the country, Fairbridge supports 13-25 year olds who are not in education, employment or training or who have been identified as being at risk of dropping out.

Hard at work
These young people often face a range of problems and may have been excluded from school, endured long-term unemployment, faced homelessness or become involved in criminal activity. Many are without the support of their family and on the margins of their local community.

A disproportionate number of these young people are concentrated in deprived areas.

Through a combination of long-term personal support and challenging activities, Fairbridge provide young people with a route back into mainstream society.

Youth unemployment, juvenile crime, drug addiction, and homelessness: the problems that face young people end up facing us all. So by supporting individuals,
Fairbridge is also creating a more positive environment for everyone who lives in the communities where Fairbridge are based.

Eleven young people took part in construction training down at DCS over a two week period and were then armed with the skills to go and carry out work in their communities. The people that took part in the Fairbridge/DCS/Help the Aged Project were:

Terry Lawson,Steven Hogarth, Jamie Duddin, Wayne Campbell, Sam Oivhog, Craig Taylor, Lee Page, Daniel Gallagher, Emma Anderson, Neil Gangle, Katie McFadden

Daz Berry - Development Tutor at Fairbridge came along with the learners to DCS whilst they had their various workshops in construction. He saw the responses to these young handy lads and lasses as they went around servicing elderly peoples homes.

In his own words Daz said the provision was 'Absolutely excellent!'

Happy customers!

The outcomes for the guys that took part in the programme have been a real success; 'some got jobs, the feedback from the young un's was the proof in the pudding. It's projects like these that are helping to bridge generational gaps that can sometimes be so steadfast.'
